Import Export of Dairy Products: India_July 2020

The import export data of India is now available for the July 2020.The data reveals many important finding in terms of volumes of trade across the segments as well as major countries from/to India was trading in this difficult time as compared to same period of the last year (Apr-Jul 2019).In this blog, we are publishing the major findings from the Jul 2020 & Apr-Jul 2020 and we have also prepared the comprehensive report on import export of milk and milk products.

Change over same period last year:

There is a decline in the export in both volume and value terms. The export volume has declined by 30% and 21% decline in value terms.Opposite to export trend, the import volume and value shows 13% and 27% increase respectively as compared to last year same period.The net export was declined from 4.9 thousand tonnes (Apr-Jul 2019) to negative 6.1 thousand tonnes in Apr-Jul 2020.

Export:

The major export category Butter & Ghee registered a significant decline in both volume (57%) and value terms (39%). Of the total export of Butter and Ghee, Middle East countries have about 50% share.Significant upside movement can be seen in Casein from 112 tonnes in Apr-Jul 2019 to 360 tonnes in Apr-Jul 2020 but its share in total export is negligible.

Import:

The major import category is Lactose, increase in both volume (88%) and value terms (47%). USA accounts for about 40% of this import.Whey import has increased by more than 140% in both volume and value terms. France and Turkey account for about 58% of this import.Two categories Lactose and Whey contributes to more than 80% of the total import in terms of volume but their share is almost 50% in value terms.
